Susquehanna Union Green Opens to the Public

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, Vartan Group, Inc. announced Phase I of Susquehanna Union Green is officially open for business.

The highly anticipated opening of the site coincides with the opening of businesses in its commercial core.

Panera Bread’s new bakery-café and Wendy’s Restaurant served their first customers last week, and earlier in the year, real estate agency Berkshire Hathaway Homesale Realty opened the doors to its new Harrisburg office.

“Susquehanna Union Green is now open to the public,” said H. Ralph Vartan, Chief Executive Officer of the Vartan Group. “Today marks an important step in the realization of the vision for this vital area, as a community focal point for Dauphin County and Susquehanna Township.”

Property developer Vartan Group undertook extensive infrastructure construction, including improvements to Linglestown Road, leading to the opening of Phase I of Susquehanna Union Green.

“It’s thrilling to see this project coming to life,” said Frank Lynch, President of the Susquehanna Township Board of Commissioners. “Because of the Vartan Group’s vision and collaborative efforts, Susquehanna Union Green will be a model for future development, offering our residents new places to dine, shop, work, and live, while maintaining walkability and a close community feeling,” Lynch added.

Additional phases of the project are underway now and slated to open in 2022, including several commercial core buildings, luxury apartments, single-family homes, and public outdoor spaces. Upon completion Susquehanna Union Green will consist of 19 acres of green space representing a third of the overall site; 150,000 SF of neighborhood commercial/retail space; a 110-room hotel; a senior living community; 40 single-family homes; and 120 apartment homes.

Dauphin County Commissioner Chair Mike Pries said on behalf of the board, which includes Commissioners Chad Saylor and George P. Hartwick, III: “We are very excited to see the progress of Susquehanna Union Green and the promise it holds as a community hub and attraction for decades to come. And these are just the opening phases of a major-impact project brought to life by a group of collaborators, led by the Vartan Group.”
